The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
