The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
