Fresh particulars have surfaced concerning the shocking passing of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were found at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.
A source indicates referencing a confidential source, a therapist arriving for an appointment initially became concerned after failing to get inside the house. The practitioner then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.
When she went into the house, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then left the home distraught, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. A companion who had gone with her contacted 911. Subsequently, paramedics discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, including the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently being held and denied bail.
The person close to the family questioned several previously reported details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the property, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that juncture.
Furthermore refuted published notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "worried" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Rather the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes reports of alleged "unstable" conduct by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. While the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.
Per law enforcement sources, the coroner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts noted the condition of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, about 15 miles from the scene. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would be unable to attend until no sooner than Wednesday.
